My name is Joshua Dan Imuakamealanakila Bow Zane Kwong Peterson. My friends call me Josh, or JP. Here, I have the chance to write about myself, and I’m not even sure what to say anymore. It’s different when you write song lyrics. They can be vague, they can be pointed, but the writer isn’t always necessarily speaking about themselves.
I’m a hopeless romantic, and it comes through in my stories, my lyrics, and my actions. My musical background is expansive, for it tells the story of my life. As a classically trained musician, I’ve studied trumpet (my first instrument), voice, and some minimal piano - as a lover of music, I learned how to play the guitar, drums, and percussion on my own time. One day I will play the ukulele and the piano well.
When I was a child, I was surrounded by Hawaiian folk music, gospel, pop, and the oldies. When I became old enough to start having my own thoughts about music, I asked my mom what was of the name of the type of music I enjoyed - she told me I liked alternative music. From my grandfather, I learned to love classical and jazz music. From my friends I discovered punk music and metal. I picked up my first guitar when I was 14, and formed a band shortly after that. For some people it’s just a phase - for others, it’s all you can think about.
